2nd PNP MOVE Summit held in Central Visayas
With its mission to reexamine and reassess the Men Opposed to Violence Against Women Everywhere (MOVE) advocacy in the police force, resolve issues affecting the program and to formulate initiatives and plan of action geared toward the elimination of violence against women and children, the 2nd PNP MOVE Summit was held on August 31, 2011 to September 2, 2011 at the Cebu Business Hotel, Cebu City.
A total of 150 male advocates from the National Headquarters, Police Regional Offices, NCR District Offices, National Support Units and representatives from the academe, and concerned NGOs attended the summit. This year’s theme dubbed “Men of the PNP: Moving Forward Toward a VAW-Free Society”.
Among of the highlights of said activity include the presentation of best practices and proposed initiatives from each chapter, election of MOVE Officers and the discussion and adoption of joint declaration/manifesto containing the proposed initiatives for submission to PDG Raul M Bacalso, PNP Chief.
Lecturers shares their thoughts on how to eradicate gender violence and discrimination. Professor Romeo Lee discussed about Men and Violence: Social Cultural and Psychological Perspective and PCSupt Lina C Sarmiento, Director of PSPG talked about Policewomen’s Expectation to the Men as a Mentor, as a Peer and as a Subordinate. PDir Renato Heredia, Director, Directorate for Intelligence was the Guest of Honor and Speaker.
MOVE is an organization of principled men from various sectors of society whose primary concern is to actively contribute to eliminate Violence Against Women (VAW) everywhere. Advocates should undergo gender sensitivity trainings and capability building to enhance their knowledge, attitudes and skills on various issues concerning violence on women and children.
The summit is optimistic to have a violence-free environment for women in the future.
