PRO7 Personnel, Availed Free Hepatitis B Vaccine
To prevent hepatitis B virus infection, the men and women of Police Regional Office 7 (PRO7) were vaccinated free of charge on March 16-17, 2011 held at PRO7 Headquarters.
The effort was made possible through the initiative of PRO7 Ladies Club spearheaded by no less than the spouse of PCSUPT AGER P ONTOG JR., PRO7 Regional Director. As a pathologist, DR. Marlene S Ontog projected her idea purposely to combat viral infection most especially for PNP personnel who are at risk of infection because of their mandated duty which is to serve and protect the community, their lifestyle choices, or other life circumstances.
Hepatitis B vaccine is a vaccine developed for the prevention of hepatitis B virus infection. The vaccine contains one of the viral envelope proteins, hepatitis B surface antigen. It is produced by yeast cells, into which the genetic code for HBsAg (hepatitis B surface antigen) has been inserted. A course of three (3) vaccine injections are given with the second injection at least one month after the first dose and the third injection given six months after the first dose. Afterward an immune system antibody to HBsAg is established in the bloodstream.
A total of one hundred seventy-three (173) PNP and NUP personnel benefited from the program of Dr. Ontog and the Ladies Club. The next vaccine will be announced to provide them a lifetime protection.
