Accomplishments of Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT)
Establishment of Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) is one of the impact projects of Police Regional Office 7 under the leadership of PCSUPT AGER POBLADOR ONTOG, JR. This is compliance of the directive from PNP NHQ for the full implementation of the Letter of Instruction No. 22/09 “BAYANIHAN” Barangay Peacekeeping Operation (BPO) as the doctrine and Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) as the implementors.
The concept of BPAT is apolice-community partnership law enforcement. It is composed of PNP personnel as supervisor, barangay officials, members of the different sectoral groups and other members of the community. Barangay Peacekeeping Operations- is a comprehensive and catch-all anti-crime strategy that seeks to empower all stakeholders to share the responsibility of peacekeeping and order maintenance towards self-policing with the idea of: “the community is the police and the police is the community” with the BPAT as the prime movers of BPO.
Bayanihan answers the need for the whole neighborhood to get involved in policing and law enforcement. The community relies upon the police to “serve and protect” and the police, in return, rely upon community support and cooperation in order to be effective.
Presently, Police Regional Office 7 has conducting Skills Enhancement Training to the members of BPAT to the different City/Provincial Police Offices all over Region 7 in collaboration with their respective Local Chief Executives (LCEs) who are mandated by Law for funding support of the requirements for training and equipage pursuant the DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2009-145.
